Muscat: Oman’s Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed is in good health, Dr Ahmad Al Saidi, Minister of Health, said on Tuesday.

Al Saidi said Sultan presiding over a cabinet meeting in Muscat after his return last April following two months of periodical medical tests was evidence of his good health.

Al Saidi pointed out that he was among the medical staff accompanying Sultan Qaboos to Germany for medical treatment.

“His Majesty insisted on the presence of Omani doctors to be part of the medical team in his treatment journey to Germany,” said Al Saidi.

Al Saidi said Omani medical staff sometimes surpassed the foreign medical staff in some aspects of treatment.

The minister was speaking at an open session hosted by Bank Muscat on Tuesday.

Sultan Qaboos returned to Muscat on April 12 from Germany, where he had been undergoing periodical medical tests for certain conditions for two months.

Social media was abuzz with news of sultan’s return. Nationals launched two hashtags on Twitter “Be happy! Qaboos has arrived” and “Be cheerful and commend him to the protection of our prayer”.

Sultan Qaboos had undergone an eight-month medical treatment in Germany in July 2014. He returned to the country in March, 2015. In November, 2014, Sultan Qaboos reassured citizens about his health in a video address from Germany, where he was receiving medical treatment.

The sultan in a video address carried on state news channel Oman TV, greeted citizens for the country’s 44th National Day, which falls on November 18, and expressed regret for not being able to be present during celebrations.
