Qaboos presides over the cabinet meeting OMAN NEWS AGENCY

Muscat: Oman’s Sultan Qaboos Bin Said thanked Omani citizens for their cooperation in making development programmes and plans a success, despite the unstable conditions being experienced by the world today.

That statement came after he presided over the Council of Ministers on Tuesday.

Qaboos reviewed local, regional and international issues, reported Oman News Agency (ONA).

He expressed his satisfaction with the achievements of the country’s comprehensive development march, citing the good rates of growth that take into account the economic and social aspects of the nation and the efforts exerted by the government and the state’s institutions with a view to maintaining the services rendered to citizens.

In particular, He gave directives to accord more attention to the tourism sector and other sectors of economic potential, considering them sources of investment that are capable of achieving a tangible return to the national income.

Qaboos also underlined the importance of supporting efforts of project implementation and partnership with the private sector aimed at setting up new production projects that enhance sustainable development.

While reviewing developments in the regional and international arenas, Qaboos reiterated the sultanate’s continued cooperation and support for all efforts aimed at the rapprochement of views and reiterated Oman’s stand on helping resolve all issues in a manner that enables all nations to continue their growth tracks in secure and stable conditions.

At the end of the meeting, Qaboos touched upon issues of concern to citizens and gave his directives to all state institutions to continue exerting efforts to achieve desired goals.

Sultan Qaboos returned to Muscat on April 12, 2015, from Germany, where he had been undergoing periodical medical tests for certain conditions, which authorities said had been successfully treated.

Social media was abuzz with the sultan’s return, circulating news from Muscat International Airport, which went viral.

Sultan Qaboos had undergone an eight-month medical treatment in Germany in July 2014. In his four decades as ruler, Sultan Qaboos has transformed the small oil exporter from a poverty-stricken backwater torn by dissent into a prosperous state, earning a reputation as a mediator seeking to ease periodic tensions between non-Arab Iran and Gulf Arab states.
