Muscat: In his second public appearance since returning from medical leave abroad, Omani leader Sultan Qaboos placed the corner stone for the ‘Oman Across Ages’ Museum in Manah province, where he stays in his Qasr Al Shamikat palace on Tuesday evening.

The new museum, which was the brainchild of the Omani leader, aims to shed light on Oman’s stunning achievements after 1970. “The museum will represent Oman’s divine nature and its abounded geographic diversity in an interactive way using modern narrative description techniques,” according to a press release.

“The main goal of the museum is to acquaint Oman youth with the country’s achievements and growth durring the Omani renaissance era while also highlighting the country’s rich history,” it said.

Qaboos, who returned to Muscat on March 23 to public celebrations, has called for speeding up plans to achieve economic diversification as well as completing major projects. His first public appearance was in April when he met with his cabinet.

Oman has been affected significantly by plummeting oil prices internationally in recent months. The plunge took place during Sultan Qaboos’ absence from the country.

In the cabinet meeting last April, Sultan Qaboos also called for attracting more investments, activating areas of partnership with the private sector and encourage setting small and medium enterprises
