Muscat: Omanis joined the UAE in its celebration of the 43rd National Day on Tuesday in an unprecedented show of solidarity between the neighbouring countries under the slogan “the joy of the people”.

Many Omanis decorated their vehicles with pictures of Sultan Qaboos and President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. A parade of 40 Omani vehicles was kicked off from Shinas province in the northern Batinah governorate that borders the UAE on Monday to participate in the celebrations.

“All the vehicles were decorated with the two countries leaders”, Mohammad Al Kaabi, one of the organisers, told Gulf News.

Al Kaabi added that the parade was heading to Dubai to express love and brotherhood between two peoples. He added that Omani halwa and flowers are distributed in Hatta border post between Batinah and Dubai.

Moreover, a number of events were held in various Omani provinces marking the event. Poems, folklore songs and marches were held in Buraimi, Sohar and Shinas provinces on Tuesday. Buraimi is a sister city of Al Ain across the border.

“Warm congratulation from Oman to the UAE people for the national day”, Nasser Al Shamsi who attended a march in Buraimi, told Gulf News.

Al Shamsi said it was for the first time that such celebrations were marked on this scale. The celebrations also took place in Madeef, Hatta, Khatmat Malaha, and Hili border posts.

The royal court made two art works as a dedication for the UAE people on the occasion of the National Day. Omanis have launched a hashtag on Twitter for the event called “Oman celebrates UAE National Day”.

More marches and vehicles parades will be organised nationwide in the coming days to mark the UAE National Day.

Khalid Al Mawali, the chairman of Majlis Al Shura, tweeted that Oman and the UAE will stay as one heart and hand, congratulating the UAE people on the occasion.

Omani singers composed a song for the UAE, showing symbols, flags and images of the two countries along with the two heads of state as well as the late founder and president of the UAE, Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
