The driver filmed himself bypassing the queue of traffic at a National Survey Programe checkpoint at a high speed on the hard shoulder to avoid the check.
He narrowly avoided the checkpoint as well as the stationary traffic.
The ROP arrested the suspect hours after the video went viral on social media platforms.
ROP posted a photograph of the suspect’s vehicle parked at a police station.
“Referring to the video of a driver overtook from the road shoulder at a police checkpoint; ROP confirms that the point was of the National Survey Programe which set in Dhofar region,” ROP said in online statement.
Figures from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) show that 692 people were killed in road accidents in 2016, compared to 975 in 2015.
Speeding and wrongful overtaking have been cited as the main causes of road accidents in the country.
