Muscat: Two Omani fishermen who went missing in the Sea of Oman were safely brought ashore by rescue teams on Saturday.

The two brothers, identified as Abdul Rahman and Saeed Al Mazroui, residents of Al Aqar village in the Shinas province, had set off on a fishing trip on Wednesday, according to their family.

The two men had been stranded at sea after their boat’s engine failed. The Coast Guard, with the help of local people, was able to locate the drifting boat around 75 nautical miles north of Shinas and rescue the brothers three days after they had left the village, a Royal Oman Police official told Gulf News.

The brothers were reported to be in stable condition after their ordeal.

The families of the fishermen issued statements expressing their gratitude for those who helped with the rescue.

Ahmad Al Mazroui, a cousin of one of the fishermen, told Gulf News that the three days that passed without the two men returning home had been extremely hard on the family.

“We were counting the hours and the minutes,” he said.

In May, the Royal Oman Police rescued two brothers in Sur province who had gone missing at sea in similar circumstances.
