Muscat: A 60-year-old Omani national has been stuck in India for two years after authorities accused him of trying to marry a minor in 2014.

Rashid Al Madsari was arrested in Hyderabad and detained for three months before an investigation was launched.

Later, authorities granted him bail but confined him to house arrest in India.

Al Madsari’s son, Salim, denied his father married a minor and has provided documents proving the girl was 20 years old.

Frustrated by the lack of action by the Indian authorities, Salim has urged Omani authorities to intervene.

Omani authorities have provided Rashid with a lawyer to help secure his release but so far, there has been no movement on the matter.

Salim says time is of the essence as because his father, who suffers from heart problems, is in poor health.

In April, a 42-year-old Omani man was also arrested in India for marrying a minor, according to Indian media reports.

The man reportedly paid the girl’s family for the girl.

Six Omanis have been arrested in the past three years for attempting to marry minors in India.
