Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) have said that there has been a 32 per cent decline in thefts in February this year, compared to the same period last year.

An official at the ROP, said that 109 cases of theft had been reported in February, compared to 161 such crimes in February 2016.

The official pointed out that 95 people, including 51 Omanis and 44 expatriates, were charged with thefts in February, compared to a total of 118 booked in such cases in February 2016.

The official said that the vigilance of police and the cooperation of nationals and expatriates in reporting such crimes to the ROP have helped bring down number of crimes in Oman.

The ROP launched a campaign entitled ‘Prevention is Protection and Safety’ in 2013, which the police say has been instrumental in spreading awareness across the country about fight against crime.
