Muscat: Royal Oman Police (ROP) has dismissed rumours on social media that an ROP vehicle was chasing a national’s vehicle before it crashed in Izki province on Wednesday.

An official at the ROP told Gulf News that there were no ROP vehicles in the area when the road accident took place.

The official added that the surviving passengers in the accident reported the accident to the police.

Four were killed and the other three sustained severe injuries in the collision.

One of the victims was an eight-year-old boy travelling with his mother.

The case has been forwarded to the Public Prosecution for further investigation, says the ROP official.

Meanwhile, Oman spares no efforts to combat fatalities due to road accidents resulting in a 15.1 per cent drop in the death toll from January to last March.
