Muscat: There has been no impact on Oman Air’s business after a man flying to Bangkok on Oman Air on Thursday tested positive for Mers.
Speaking to Gulf News, a senior official at Oman Air said that there has not been a drop in bookings after the incident.
A 75-year-old businessman came to a private hospital in Bangkok on Thursday with symptoms where he was later diagnosed with Mers. Fifty-eight hospital staff members were quarantined for further tests.
Oman Air has asked all passengers on the June 15 flight WY815 to go to a hospital and get tested.
On Friday, the patient was reportedly in “better condition”, according to Thailand’s Public Health Minister Rajata Rajatanavin.
Two family members travelling with the man were also being tested, after the two developed a fever and cough.
The relatives were being quarantined at the Bamranaradura Infectious Diseases Institute in Nothaburi, a province outside Bangkok.
The Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (Mers) has spread at a rapid pace in South Korea since the first case was diagnosed on May 20, infecting 166 people in the largest outbreak outside Saudi Arabia.
The 75-year-old is the seventh reported Omani infected by Mers since the disease surfaced in Oman for the first time in October 2013.
Symptoms of the disease include coughing and fever and can lead to pneumonia.
The disease first emerged in Saudi Arabia in 2012 and has since been reported in Qatar, France, Germany, Italy, Tunisia, Oman, the UAE and the UK.
