Ibri: An Omani died in a road accident in Makkah, where he was performing Haj, on Wednesday, according to the Omani Haj mission.

The victim, identified as Mohammad Bin Salem Al Muzaini of Saham province, was run over by a police vehicle while crossing the road.

The pilgrim died on the way to hospital in Makkah after sustaining severe injuries and internal bleeding.

He was laid to rest in Makkah on Thursday, after Saudi authorities took permission from his family to bury him. An investigation is under way into the incident, reports Saudi media, and Saudi authorities are expected to compensate the man’s family.

The picture of Omani pilgrim went viral on social media, with many praying for him and expressing condolences to his family.

No other fatalities for Omani pilgrims have been reported so far.

This year, 11,200 pilgrims attended Haj this year, including 537 residents, while the number of licensed contractors stood at 231.

Two Omani nationals were among the pilgrims injured in the crane accident at Makkah’s Grand Mosque last year that claimed hundreds of lives.
