Muscat: The Iran-Oman military committee has begun its five-day meet in Muscat.

According to a statement released by the Iranian Navy, the joint naval exercises coincide with the five-day ninth session of the joint Iran-Oman military committee, which kicked off on Sunday in Muscat.

The ceremony was attended by Brigadier General Mustafa Salami, the Iranian head of the joint committee, and his Omani counterpart Brigadier General Rashid Bin Saif Al Shaidi and a number of other military officials from the two countries.

Hussain Noush Abadi, Iran's Ambassador to Muscat, told Iranian media that during the meeting the Iranian side made some proposals to increase military cooperation and the Omani side vowed to implement the proposals next year.

The Iranian delegation is also scheduled to meet with Oman's chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff, defence minister, navy and police commanders

Meanwhile, the Iranian naval vessel units left Iran's southern coast for Oman as the two countries prepare to hold their second joint military drill.

Head of the Iran-Oman joint military committee Brigadier General Mustafa Salami said Monday that during the talks with commanders of the Omani air and naval forces, the two sides underlined the need to consolidate bilateral ties, develop close military cooperation in establishing lasting security in the area.

He pointed out that in addition to two rounds of official talks on the expansion of military ties, further meetings between the military officials of the two countries are also on the agenda.
