Muscat: A GCC national was arrested on drug trafficking charges in Shinas province on Oman’s northern coast.

Two bags of hashish and cash from the sale of narcotics were recovered from the accused. Shinas lies close to the town of Hatta on the UAE border.

The accused has been handed to the Public Prosecution for further investigation and trial.

Last February, another GCC national was arrested for drug peddling in Haima province in southern Oman.

The Royal Oman Police has urged residents to report any drug peddling case on the emergency number 999 or reporting it to the nearest police station.

The accused could face up to 10 years in jail and a fine of not less than 3,000 rials for drug trafficking, according to the article 45 of the Drug Act.
