Muscat: Five people were killed and one injured in two road accidents during the Eid Al Adha holiday in Oman, according to Royal Oman Police (ROP).
One Omani national and two Indians were killed in head-on collision in Seeq area of Kamil Wa Wafi province on Tuesday evening. They all died on the spot, according to ROP. Another Bangladeshi is battling for his life after he sustained severe injuries due to the accident.
Similarly, two Omanis were killed in a turnover road accident on Wednesday evening in Ibra province. The driver lost control of his vehicle due to speeding.
Many Omanis and expatriates spent the nine-day Eid holiday either visiting their relatives or tourist spots in the country.
Thirty people were killed in road accidents in August.
On July, 65 were killed and other 234 injured in 330 road accidents nationwide, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) figures.
On average, two people are killed in road accidents every day in Oman.
Oman has one of the highest numbers of road accidents worldwide, with 6,276 crashes recorded in 2015, resulting in more than 675 deaths.
