Muscat: A 39-year-old Omani man and his 4-year-old daughter were killed on Tuesday night when their vehicle collided with another in Masanah province, Oman Police said.

Two other persons, who sustained serious injuries in the crash, are battling for their lives in Sohar Hospital.

An official of the Royal Oman Police (ROP) said the father and daughter who died instantly, belonged to Al Zadjali tribe from Masanah province

The official said overtaking from the wrong side caused the tragic accident.

Meanwhile, there had been a significant decrease in the number of road accidents in Oman.

Figures from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) show that 692 people were killed in road accidents in 2016, compared to 975 in 2015.

Speeding and wrong overtaking have been cited as the main causes of road accidents in the country.
