Muscat: Oman’s Administrative Judicial Court on Thursday ruled in favour of an Omani TV anchor in a case involving the Public Authority for Radio and TV.

The court ordered the authority to pay Khalid Al Shukaili 1,000 riyals as compensation and 300 riyals as lawyer’s expenses.

The details of the case dated back in February, 2014, when Al Shukail filed a grievance petition at the Administrative Judicial Court against the decisions of the authority.

Al Shukaili, an anchor in the state-run Oman TV Sport Channel, told Gulf News that he challenged the decision by his employer appointing a new head of the department.

“It was supposed to be me as the head of the Sports department at the TV as I’m the oldest in the career and more qualified”, said Al Shukaili.

Moreover, the decision came after Al Shukaili raised the issue of repeat telecasts, poor quality of the studio and justified the absence of an employee who did not receive money for overtime.

Al Shukaili was questioned by the Legal Committee of the Public Authority for Radio and Television for his criticism about the quality of work and the absence of the employee who did not receive money for their work.

The Public Authority for Radio and TV subsequently suspended him from presenting “Al Dakah” show about the Oman national football team as well as Omani pro league in the sport channel.

The anchorman filed the case to the Administrative Judicial Court, which said that the decision of the authority of suspending him to present the show was unjustified.

Al Shukaili pointed out that he had full faith in “the fair judicial system in the country”.
