Muscat: Oman’s Ministry of Manpower, in coordination with the Oman Journalists Association (OJA), has awarded year-long scholarships to 14 Omani journalists for English language courses.

“Giving journalists a chance of advancing their English language skills is seen as a way for them to better their careers and expand their horizons in this important area of the media involved in mass information distribution,” said Ali B. Rashid Al Matani, chairman of OJA’s training committee.

“The ministry is lending its support by granting a number of training opportunities in English language for OJA’s project on specialised training for journalists,” said Shaikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al Bakri, minister of manpower, adding that Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed had issued directives to support the scheme.

“The training is part of the plan to provide English language training for as many local journalists as possible, which would allow them to be better able to give good coverage at international conferences and for interviews with foreign officials,” Al Matani said.
