Manama: A Kuwaiti-funded orphanage for disabled children has been inaugurated in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli.
The care home was inaugurated by former Lebanese prime minister Najib Mikati on the sidelines of the Sixth International Scientific Conference titled ‘Technology and Rehabilitation In Serving Children’s Mental and Physical Health’ organised by Al Rahma Medical Complex, Kuwait News Agency (Kuna) reported.
Mikati praised Kuwait’s “proactive role and efforts in the philanthropic and humanitarian field, as well as its permanent support of humanitarian issues”.
He also thanked those who had stepped up to finance the new orphanage, stressing the importance of constructing such centres and projects that contribute to the fortification of communities and improving their living and health conditions, the official news agency said.
According to Walid Al Ammar, Director of the External Relations Department in Kuwaiti Endowment and Islamic Affairs Ministry, the ministry has contributed $300,000 (Dh1.1 million) for the new orphanage building as part of its support of humanitarian cases.
The ministry also contributed to projects that serve Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Jordan and provided aid and support, in cooperation with Kuwaiti Zakat House, to projects and activities that alleviated the woes of displaced Syrians, he added.
Tripoli’s Grand Mufti Malek Al Shaar said Kuwait has left a significant mark on philanthropic, humanitarian, and Islamic projects in his country and throughout the world.
Kuwait Embassy’s Representative to Lebanon Mohammad Al Khaldi reiterated Kuwait’s continued support for various humanitarian initiatives.
