Manama: Bahrain’s Prime Minister Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa has highlighted the importance of a unified stance among partner states.

“The more united the states are, the more powerful their position is,” Prince Khalifa said. “Saudi Arabia is a strong country thanks to its leaders and to its honourable stances at the Arab and Islamic levels. The stances expressed by several countries in support of Saudi Arabia reflect its status within the international community,” Prince Khalifa said as he received senior officials in the capital Manama.

Bahrain and Sudan severed their diplomatic relations with Iran following the attacks on Saudi diplomatic missions in the capital Tehran and in the northern city of Mashhad.

The UAE lowered the level of diplomatic representation, Kuwait recalled its ambassador from Tehran and summoned the Iranian envoy to protest, and Qatar unequivocally condemned the attacks.

The GCC has strongly condemned the attacks and all forms of Iranian interference in the domestic affairs of Gulf and Arab states.

The Security Council also condemned the attacks and called on Iran “to protect diplomatic and consular property and personnel, and to respect fully their international obligations in this regard”.

Several other international groups have protested against the attacks on the Saudi missions.

Prince Khalifa attributed the Gulf and international support to Saudi Arabia to the respect it commands through its honourable stances.

“There is a strong need for a unified stance within the GCC on everything related to the security and stability of the countries in the region. Unified stances are a necessity since the dangers lurking in the region are a menace to all countries and will not spare any state. This means that all the countries have to come together and confront all threats together,” Prince Khalifa, known for championing a Gulf union, said.
