Manama: Four Bahrainis were killed when their car overturned after a front tyre burst as they were heading home from Makkah in western Saudi Arabia where they performed Umrah.

Abdul Majeed Adam Khater, 62, his wife, Fayza Abdullah Mohammad Sulaiman, 60, and their son Ala’a Al Deen, 31, died at the accident scene while another passenger, Mohammad Salah Karam Allah, died at the hospital where he was taken for treatment, Bahrain’s General Consul in Jeddah Ebrahim Mohammad Al Musallamani said.

Sami Mohammad Siraj Eddeen, Ahmad Al Dooma Abdul Majeed, 14, and Manal Mohammad Al Khair Fadhl, 42, are being treated for injuries sustained in the accident.

Doctors said that Manal was in critical condition and that the next 48 hours would be crucial.

The Bahraini diplomat said the two families arrived in Makkah on Thursday and the accident occurred as they were heading home in their 4X4.

He added that the deceased would be buried in Makkah as per the wishes of their families.

In neighbouring Saudi Arabia, five people of the same family died when their car overturned in the south of the country.

One man and two women died at the accident scene while another man and another woman died at the hospital, local daily Al Watan reported on Sunday.
