Manama: Egypt has joined the chorus of international condemnation of the twin blasts this week that killed two people in Bahrain.

“The attacks reflect the terrible bankruptcy of the crime perpetrators whose claims have been clearly refuted by Bahrain’s successful parliamentary and municipal elections, development and progress in various areas,” the Egyptian ambassador to Bahrain Essam Saleh Awadh said, Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported on Thursday.

Italy on Wednesday said it condemned the deadly blasts and called for the rejection of violence by all segments of the Bahraini society.

“I strongly condemn the criminal bombings in Demistan and Karzakkan that led to the death of a police officer and a civilian, and I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the families of the victims,” the Italian Ambassador to Bahrain Alberto Vecchi said.

“Italy reckons the only way to achieve peace and stability is through the unwavering pursuit of a national reconciliation in the path of an effective and sustainable reform process. Such acts of terrorist violence undermine all efforts to overcome the social and political tensions in the country and should be strongly, clearly and unequivocally rejected by all representatives of the different parts of the Bahraini society,” the ambassador said.

German Ambassador to Bahrain Sabine Taufmann said she was deeply shocked when she learnt about the senseless bomb attacks.

“Such acts of violence cannot be justified by any cause,” she said. “Violence undermines ongoing efforts to overcome political tensions and rebuild trust and confidence necessary for preparing the ground for a sustainable reform process,” she said.

The European Union also condemned the twin blasts. “We offer our sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” Catherine Ray, spokesperson for EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, said. “These dramatic events underline the need to urgently seek a solution to the current difficulties in Bahrain through constructive and peaceful dialogue,” she was quoted by BNA.

She added the newly elected parliament will have an opportunity to advance the current reform process and work towards a swift resumption of national dialogue.

Locally, King Hamad Bin Eisa Al Khalifa offered his condolences to the families of the blast victims, Abdul Karim Mohammad Jafaar Al Basri and Ali Mohammad Ali Zuraiqat.

The parliament and several political and rights societies also condemned the blasts.
