Manama: Bahrain will continue its strong resolve to bolster democracy, King Hamad Bin Eisa Al Khalifa said.

“Bahrain has already crossed the difficult phases of democratic practices and will continue with great resolve to move forward on this path,” King Hamad said in a speech at the 36th cultural and arts festival in the Atlantic resort of Asilah in Morocco.

Deputy Premier Shaikh Mohammad Bin Mubarak Al Khalifa delivered the speech on behalf of King Hamad at the opening forum, “National State and Regional Federations in the Southern Hemisphere”.

Bahrain is the guest of honour at the annual international event that started on Friday in the presence of state leaders, heads of governments, former leaders, politicians, intellectuals and artists..

“Bahrain, keen on supporting joint action, was among the founders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), driven by its awareness that natural and regional alliances are not an easy option if common factors and the popular will to reinforce them are not taken into consideration,” King Hamad said. “Achieving common goals can be done only through adopting democratic practices as the basis for the rule.”

He warned that lack of solidarity, scattered efforts and isolationist policies were among the most ominous threats and difficult challenges that countries had to confront politically and economically.

“Reality and common sense demand solidarity and collaboration and require benefiting from the experiences of others without cloning them, but rather by improving their core ideas so that they meet the aspirations of the people for progress and prosperity,” he said.
