Manama: Bahrain on Sunday afternoon said that it had arrested suspects in the explosion of a homemade bomb last week.

The General Director of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science said in a brief statement that “a number of individuals suspected of detonating a homemade bomb in a car on April 6 in Adliya”, an area in the capital Manama.

He said investigators rushed to the scene and collected forensic evidence before they launched an investigation.

“As a result of the investigation, a group of suspects were identified,” the general director said. “Some have been arrested while the search continues for the others. Those arrested were referred to the public prosecution,” he added.

On April 7, the Interior Ministry said that a car was set ablaze by the “detonation of a homemade bomb inside it.”

In 2012, Al Adliya was also the scene of a homemade explosion when suspects reportedly planted and detonated a homemade bomb near the Dilmun School on November 5.

A 34-year-old cleaning company employee lost his right hand and suffered severe injuries to his right leg in the explosion. Besides the Adliya bomb, four devices were concealed in garbage bins and another was placed under a car being repaired at a garage in Gudhaibiya in central Manama, an area that is heavily populated by Asian expatriates.

The blasts killed a 33-year-old Bangladeshi and a 29-year-old Indian in different parts of Gudhaibiya. The police had pledged a zero-tolerance policy towards any attempts to disturb public order or undermine the country’s stability.
