Manama: Identity cards will no longer be accepted at the airport for Bahrainis traveling between Manama and Doha, the Nationality, Passport and Residence Affairs (NPRA) has announced.
Bahrainis traveling to and from Qatar now need to bring their passports.
Last week, Bahrain said it would impose visas on Qatari nationals planning to visit the kingdom starting November 10.
The visa will be extended to all expatriates living in Qatar.
Bahrain attributed its decision to the fact that Qatar had granted its citizenship and residency to terrorists or foreigners linked with terrorism who could take advantage of the easy travel procedures to cause harm to its security and stability.
Foreigners living in Qatar are currently granted visas to enter Bahrain upon their arrival to the kingdom.
GCC nationals are not required to present their passport while traveling to fellow GCC states.
Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt on June 5 severed their diplomatic relations with Qatar after they accused it of supporting extremists and funding terrorism.
The Quartet issued a list of 13 demands that Qatar had to meet, but Doha has rejected them.
Saudi Arabia and the UAE have banned its citizens from traveling to Qatar and have expelled Qatari nationals although exceptions have been made on humanitarian grounds.
Mediation efforts, conducted mainly by Kuwait, have not achieved any breakthrough or even an incremental development.
Bahrain was the first country to announce the break-off of relations. It was also the first country to announce that it would not attend any Gulf Cooperation Council; (GCC) meeting or summit in which Qatar is present.
The GCC, established in 1981, comprises Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
However, the alliance is on shaky ground due to the crisis and a GCC summit planned for December looks unlikely to take place.
