Manama: Bahrain’s justice minister has warned that the ministry will take the necessary legal measures against any political society that communicates or liaises in any way with individuals and terrorist organisations associated with Qatar or supports them through media or political action.

Shaikh Khalid Bin Ali Al Khalifa said that his ministry is cooperating with the Ministry of Interior in its fight against those who are raising funds for the terrorist groups.

“We reject all forms of association with foreign organisations which interfere in the domestic affairs of Bahrain. Allegiance to religion and to the nation should be through protecting the sovereignty and security of the country and consolidating its achievements, progress and values of citizenship and peaceful coexistence,” Shaikh Khalid said.

The ministry will hold legally accountable anyone who uses religion for showing allegiance to a foreign entity that targets the sovereignty, unity and stability of the country, the minister added.

He said: “There is a great need to confront any course of action that comes in conflict with the values and interests of Bahrain. It reflects the deep faith, commitment and responsibility vis-a-vis all forms of extremism, terrorism and violence regardless of their sources.”

Last week, Bahrain requested all media outlets to be committed to the kingdom’s declared position towards Qatar.

“In line with the political decisions taken by Bahrain and other Gulf and Arab countries towards the state of Qatar, the Ministry of Information Affairs asked all media outlets to abide by the kingdom’s stated position and not to publish anything that prejudices its interests.

The ministry warned against publishing or circulating any form of material which opposes the decisions of the kingdom or the countries that support it in this regard, or any material that endorses or validates Qatar’s policies.

Legal action will be taken against anyone who circulates any material banned under the ministry’s decision, the statement added.
