Manama: Bahrain and Russia have marked the silver jubilee of their diplomatic relations with a photography exhibition detailing their progress.

The exhibition was inaugurated by

Shaikha Mai Bint Mohammad Al Khalifa, President of Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca), who lauded the efforts to build bridges between peoples of the two countries. She commended the strong relations that have been binding Manama and Moscow over 25 years.

“The regular exchange of visits has contributed to bolstering bilateral relations and strengthening ties in all fields,” she said.

Russian Ambassador to Bahrain Vagif Garaev paid tribute to the leaders of both countries for their keenness on strengthening joint political, cultural and social relations, pointing out that he had agreed with Baca president to hold a bigger photo exhibition that would highlight the vital role of culture as a mirror reflecting amity between peoples.

Bahraini Ambassador to Moscow Ahmad Al Saati said that visits by King Hamad Bin Eisa Al Khalifa and Crown Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa to Russia have strengthened bilateral relations and boosted cooperation in all areas.

Diplomatic relations between Manama and Moscow started in September 1990 when Bahrain and the former Soviet Union established diplomatic relations on the basis of mutual respect, sovereignty and territorial integrity for both countries and in line with the UN constituent covenant and the international law.

The ambassador of the USSR presented his credentials in Manama in July 1991.

In December 1991, Bahrain recognised the Russian Federation as the successor state of the Soviet Union and the ambassador of Bahrain presented his credentials in Moscow in February 1992.

The visit by King Hamad to Moscow in December 2008 was seen as “a defining moment for bilateral relations and the final communiqué amounted to a real roadmap, stressing the importance of promoting relations”.

In April 2014, Crown Prince Salman made an official visit to Moscow, and was accompanied by an important business delegation. A Bahrain-Russia Business Forum brought together the delegation from Bahrain and around 200 key Russian business leaders.
