Manama: Bahrain on Saturday said it had revoked the nationality of 72 people, saying that the decision had been approved by the cabinet following its approval by the interior ministry.

“The Ministry of Interior is responsible for protecting the security and stability of Bahrain,” the ministry said in a statement. “Part of that responsibility is a duty to fight terrorism and identify those who engage, encourage or participate in such acts. Each citizen of Bahrain has the responsibility to act in ways that do not harm the interests of the Kingdom.”

The statement added that “a decree was issued for the withdrawal of the Bahraini nationality of 72 individuals based on Article 10c of the Bahrain Nationality Law, the review of the Interior Minister and the approval of the cabinet.”

“Proper legal procedures will be taken by the Interior Ministry to implement this decision,” it said.
