Manama: Police authorities in Bahrain said they received complaints that gunshots have been fired at two Shiite community centres (maatams).

“The General Director of Northern Governorate Police announced that the security directorate received two reports of property damage that occurred at dawn on Friday in Mattams in the villages of Hamala and Demistan,” the interior ministry media centre reported. “Complainants also reported hearing the sound of gunshots.”

The General Director said police responded to the scene and initial investigations revealed there were holes found in some of the doors and windows of the maatams.

Two bullet casings and two spent bullets were found at one of the sites and were taken for forensic testing.

“The investigation continues to identify and arrest the suspects involved. The Public Prosecution was also notified,” the statement said.
