Manama: Regional developments warrant Bahrainis being more committed to national unity, and to be more assertive in maintaining the security and stability of the nation, Bahrain’s Prime Minister Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa has said.

“At such a critical stage, we must be help one another and use our agreements to enhance our ability to achieve the progress and prosperity we wish for Bahrain and its people,” Prince Khalifa said on Sunday as he received politicians, lawmakers, media figures and common citizens. “Any terrorist act, regardless of where it is perpetrated, has its repercussions that impact everyone and, therefore, the punishment should be stringent. There is no room for any kind of compromise on terrorism.”

Reviewing the latest Arab and international developments, the premier said he deeply regretted the abhorrent terrorist attack in Egypt.

“Everyone was shocked and such an odious act confirms that terrorism knows no religion or country. It also stresses the significance of common efforts and the need to adopt strong and firm measures to eradicate terrorism and dry up its sources. GCC leaders and the Arab states are keen to work for the security and stability of their countries, to protect them from terrorism and to tackle the sources of support and funding,” he said.

“At the same time, our societies must be better aware of the schemes being plotted against them to undermine security and stability and to destroy the basic foundations indispensable for the advancement of any society.”

Prince Khalifa added he appreciated the role of journalists and media in reporting national issues and enlightening society about the importance of solidarity and cohesion.

“I am carefully following your reports and columns on all issues and on the citizens’ concerns about the services provided to them, and I thank you for this national role. The government’s efforts aim to satisfy citizens and to improve their living standards,” he said.
