Manama: Security authorities in Saudi Arabia are questioning four men following the death of a ten-year-old girl in Makkah.

The police believe her death was not natural and that the four men knew more than they told the hospital staff when they brought the girl in.

Medics at the emergency unit at the hospital alerted the police about the case after the men claimed the girl had lost consciousness near a house.

However, the men who claimed they were her relatives, showed signs of confusion and gave conflicting versions of what had happened to her, local daily Okaz reported on Monday.

One said that she fell off the roof of the house while another claimed she fainted near the house.

A medical check-up concluded there was bruising to her back and bleeding and other bruises on her genitals, confirming she had been raped.

The hospital alerted the Azizia police station and the four men were held for questioning.

Makkah Public Health Spokesperson Abdul Wahab Shalabi said a ten-year Afghani girl had been brought into the emergency department at Noor Specialist Hospital by her relatives who claimed she had fallen off a roof.

The medical tests concluded there was a criminal suspicion and the victim was referred to doctors for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
