Dundee, Scotland It has always been a daunting task for the Police Treatment Centre in Castlebrae, Scotland, a registered charity that serves injured or ill officers across the UK, to sustain its funding.

But now, thanks to big-hearted donations by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance, the Centre’s costs and expenses have been given a timely boost.

Two generous donations of £40,000 each, one of which go towards the making of a new library and another to the procurement of medicines and hospital equipment, have been hailed by the management.

“This is a great gesture, and very welcome indeed. Shaikh Hamdan has been very supportive of our centre and we are tremendously grateful,” said Patrick Cairns, Chief Executive of the Castlebrae facility.

“It means a tremendous amount to have a well-known benefactor like Shaikh Hamdan to recognize the work that we are doing for injured and ill police offices.

“That money will do a lot of good work for our police officers. His Highness continues to set an example through his generosity and kindness.”

Mirza Al Sayegh, director of Shaikh Hamdan’s Office, told Gulf News, explained the reasoning behind his patronage of the Police Treatment Centre

“Shaikh Hamdan has endless projects around the world that he supports through the Al Maktoum Foundation,” he told Gulf News. “He came to know about the tremendous work being done here and decided to make a small donation.

“This morning, we saw more good work by the Centre to the extent that Shaikh Hamdan has decided to offer more funding, and has donated a further £40,000 to establish a new reading library. It will be called Shaikh Hamdan’s Hall.

“The service of Police Officers is very dear to us and such a gesture is something small in comparison for the great efforts being put in at the treatment centre.”

The Al Maktoum Foundation supports charities in 14 Arab countries including Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt, Morocco, Yemen, Bahrain, Sudan, Somalia, Mauritania and Comoros.
