Peshawar: The Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) has staged a sit-in against unscheduled load shedding and overbilling issues in front of Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority’s (Wapda’s) office in Peshawar. Protesters chanted slogans against the Federal State Minister for Water and Power, Abid Sher, and Engineer Amer Maqam.
The PTI workers stormed into the Wapda office, where a large police contingent was called to disperse the protesters.
Protesters also carried placards featuring antigovernment slogans.
According to sources, around 80 per cent of the lines losses are being reported by PTI Leader Ayesha Gulalai’s electoral constituency, due to which long unscheduled load shedding is being observed in the area. The residents of the area are fed-up because of the issue.
Gulalai told media the issue of load shedding is rife across the country, including in Peshawar.
She claimed that 100 per cent recovery is being done from her Constituency still the people of her constituency are suffering from load shedding. She added that while Ramadan is coming nearer, water rations are low and electricity is not being supplied to area.
She accused Muqam and Moulana Fazul-ur-Rehman of running the system of Peshawar Electric Supply Company and announced that the protest would continue until the issue is resolved. She said a poor woman, who worked as domestic help, had been given a bill of Rs10,000 (Dh350).
She urged authorities to take notice of the situation and advised authorities to give a practical solution rather than a political reply.
