Islamabad: The Heart of Asia countries, in a declaration issued at the end of the forum’s ministerial conference here on Wednesday, reaffirmed respect for each other’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, unity and political independence.

The 14 participating countries also resolved to eradicate the menace of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

They committed to adhere to the principles of non-intervention in the internal affairs of other states and resolved to promoting a multifaceted approach of regional integration based on trust, equality and dialogue.

The conference expressed support to Afghanistan’s constructive approach towards regional engagement and its commitment to building an environment of trust and confidence throughout the region.

The leaders undertook to introduce measures to curb the spread of violent extremism, the declaration said.

The participants agreed to take necessary actions to deny terrorists access to financial and material resources, and to dismantle their sanctuaries.

They emphasised the need to resolve conflict through peaceful negotiations.

The conference welcomed the number of infrastructure and energy projects aimed at strengthening regional economies through enhanced connectivity, trade, movement of goods and people.

The fifth ministerial conference of the Heart of Asia — Istanbul Process was inaugurated jointly by Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Afghan President Ashraf Gani.

The participants included tge foreign ministers of India, Turkey and China and delegates from other member states as well as delegates from 17 supporting countries and international organisations.
