ISLAMABAD: A Pakistani woman concluded her 22-day journey around Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on a motorcycle and reached here on Monday.

Gul Afshan Tariq’s motorcycle journey, first by a Pakistani woman, was aimed at highlighting Pakistan as a tourist-friendly nation and a safe place for woman. It was sponsored by Pakistan Tourism Development Cooperation (PTDC).

At a press conference at Islamabad Club, Gul Afshan said Pakistan was one of the beautiful countries of the world.

Gul Afshan began her journey from Islamabad on May 6 and travelled to destinations like Dir, Chitral, Mastuj, Bumburet, Saidu Sharif, Malam Jabba, Kalam, Besham, Balakot, Shogran, Naran, Bobusar, Kohat, Harripur and Peshawar covering 1,500 kilometres.

“This adventurous and amazing motor ride will project the image of Pakistan as a peaceful country and will highlight tourist attractions of Pakistan to the world. This message will go to the entire world that Pakistan is a safe country where a woman all alone can travel on motorcycle without any fear,” Gul Afshan said.

Out of the 14 highest peaks of the world, five are in Pakistan including K-2, the second highest in the world, which was a challenge for mountaineers, she said. Pakistan is the birthplace of ancient civilisations such as Indus Valley and Gandhara civilisations. Now the law and order situation in the country has improved which is very suitable for tourism, said a press release issued here.
