Battagram: A Chinese couple has surprised locals by tying the knot in traditional Pakistani style, with a proper baraat ceremony.
Pictures that went viral on social media show a Chinese couple and their baraatis all dressed up in Pakistani attire for the wedding, receiving thousands of best wishes on social media.
The newly married Chinese couple celebrated their wedding in a traditional Pakistani ceremony held at Koza Banda area of Battagram district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province earlier this week.
The couple, Sain and Lin, earlier visited China to solemnise their marriage under Chinese customs. They returned on Monday to throw a traditional reception for their Pakistani friends in Koza Banda area where they are working on a project.
The bride, Lin, attended the reception in traditional red wedding dress with heavy bridal jewellery as well as splendid henna on her hands.
The groom, Sain, donned a white sherwani complete with a qula (headgear) and essential groom garland.
Their guests, mostly Chinese engineers, workers and bosses, also wore Shalwar Kameez (Pakistani dress) for the event.
The guests including both Chinese and Pakistanis enjoyed the Pakistani-style wedding reception which also featured the symbolic baraat procession (journey to bride’s home). The guests were served with local Pakistani food to make the ceremony all the more traditional.
Sharing their thoughts on the occasion, the couple said they had organised the wedding ceremony in line with Pakistani culture to bring the people of the two countries closer. Sain, said that he was really inspired by Pakistani rich culture.
The groom thanked his colleagues and friends for making their wedding memorable and for helping in arranging the reception. He said that one of his friends in Koza Banda had suggested that they should have a Pakhtun-style wedding ceremony.
Sain, engineer by profession, and Lin are part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project workforce and living in the area for last six months. The Chinese engineers got married a month ago in China.
The photos were shared on social media by acting Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Zhao Lijian where it was widely re-shared. Many Pakistani shared their excitement on social media by wishing the couple. Imran Kiyani said: “Congratulations to the couple and thumbs up to Pakistan-China friendship.
Another Twitterati, Asadullah said: “Batagram is the place, where some Pakistani-Chinese could trace their paternal bloodline as well.”
Earlier this month, a wedding photograph of a Chinese man and a Pakistani woman took the world of social media by storm and was termed as the first ‘CPEC marriage’.
The $61 billion investment China has made in Pakistan and CPEC which has been dubbed as a game-changer in bringing the people of Pakistan and China more closer.
