Hyderabad: A senior worker of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), Ayub Khan, who had attempted self-immolation last month, succumbed to his injuries in a corporate hospital in Hyderabad on Friday.

Khan, angered by minister Patnam Mahender Reddy’s aloofness and preference for appointing others to posts of party office bearers, had set himself ablaze in Reddy’s presence in his hometown, Tandur, on August 30.

The incident occurred during a party workers’ meeting.

Khan was admitted to Apollo hospital in a serious condition where he died this morning.

In view of the growing tension, police strengthened security arrangements outside the residence of the Minister in Hyderabad and Tandur.

“It is a shocking tragedy that we could not save life of a sincere party worker despite our best efforts,” Mahinder Reddy of Khan’s death.
