Hyderabad: Police in Hyderabad have booked a case of kidnapping, extortion and torture against an additional deputy commissioner of police and three junior officers.

Sandeep Shandalya, Commissioner of Cyberabad adjoining Hyderabad, said an investigation has been ordered following a complaint by Khizar Bin Abu Bakr that he was tortured and forced to sign cheques worth Rs6 million at the behest of the Additional DCP (Reserve Police), Pulinder Reddy, after a land deal between his daughter Aishwarya and a farmer fell through.

Reddy had lodged a complaint of cheating against Khizar at Rayadurgam police station, and three other police officers brought Abu Bakr to the police station and allegedly tortured him for 12 hours and made him sign the cheques.

A case has also been booked against Police Inspector Durga Prasad, Sub-Inspector Rajasekhar and Constable Lakshmi Narayana for booking a false cheating case against Abu Bakr.

Police officials said Reddy had used his daughter to purchase 2.2 acres of land for Rs11 million and paid Rs1 million to the land owner. But he failed to pay the balance amount within the stipulated time and the owner sold the land to two other people.

As Abu Bakr had brokered the deal, Reddy suspected his hand in the cancellation of the earlier deal and used his clout to get him kidnapped.

Reddy was said to have been involved in many other instances of misuse of his position in the past.

He was locked in a turf war with another Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) in Hyderabad and occupied his office forcibly claiming that he was transferred there. However, seniors ordered him out. He was also involved in attacking a constable when he was the ACP traffic police.
