Hyderabad:

Telugu Desam Member of Lok Sabha from Anantapur J C Diwakar Reddy has announced his resignation from Parliament claiming inability to fulfil his election promises.

The mercurial MP, who was recently in the news after he was banned by all domestic airlines following his abusive behaviour towards the staff of an airline, told journalists in Vijaywada Thursday that he will tender his resignation to the Lok Sabha speaker on Wednesday.

“What is the use of a post when I am not able to fulfil my promise of bringing drinking water to my hometown Tadipatri”, he said. He also alleged that some vested interests were obstructing the development of his constituency.

“In my four decades-long political career I never depended on anybody’s mercy”, he said.

However he added that he will remain in the TDP and continue to work with Chandrababu Naidu.

Diwakar Reddy who was in the Congress for most of his political career had joined the Telugu Desam Party before 2014 elections. Political observers believe his sensational decision to quit Parliament seems to be a ploy to exert pressure on Telugu Desam Party leadership.

His differences with party president Chandrababu Naidu seems to be growing ever since the episode at the Visakhapatnam airport which resulted in a ban on his flying.

Diwakar Reddy’s abusive behaviour with IndiGo air staff did not go down well with Chandrababu Naidu as he felt that it harmed the party’s image and embarrassed the union civil aviation minister P Ashok Gajapati Raju who belonged to the TDP. Though the MP managed to get the ban revoked through backroom efforts the damage had been done.
