Patna: Police investigating a gang rape case in Bihar have stumbled upon a peculiar motive behind the incident, which involved a Grade eight schoolgirl.
The incident took place in central Bihar’s Bhojpur district last week, although the case was only registered this week.
The victim had gone to attend nature’s call on the fateful evening when a group of six young men abducted her with force, took her to an abandoned area, and gang-raped her one by one.
They also filmed the entire act on their mobile phones and fled the scene after she fell unconscious, bleeding profusely.
According to police, the main accused along with five of his friends said they gang-raped the 14-year-old girl after she hurled abuses at him, allegedly during an altercation that took place a day before the incident.
“I had an argument with the girl over some issue, during which she hurled [abuse] at me. So I planned her gang-rape to avenge the insults,” the main accused Rakesh Kumar told police on Friday.
Police said the main accused is a married young man who works in a steel factory in a northern Indian town. He had returned to his village only last month.
Officers have arrested five accused persons in the case so far while one accused is absconding.
Authorities tracked down the accused on the basis of the video, which they shot and then posted on the WhatsApp.
The main accused is clearly seen in the video, police said.
He was arrested on Thursday.
After she regained consciousness, she rushed back home and narrated the entire story to her family. The case, however, was registered a week later after her father who works in Kolkata returned home last week.
Soon after the case was registered, police conducted a medical examination on the victim.
“Based on the report, further action will be taken,” station house officer at Ara women police station Poonam Kumari has said.
