Dubai: A passenger plane in India encountered a major delay on Monday after a flyer allegedly attempted to hijack the aircraft.

Jet Airways flight 9W 825 was preparing to leave Cochin airport when a man caused a commotion during boarding proceedings. He had reportedly threatened to take control of the aircraft.

According to media reports, the major security incident at Cochin airport had prompted authorities to arrest at least one passenger in question.

There were no further details on how the hijack scare took place, but a Jet Airways spokesperson confirmed to  Gulf News that one of its flights did encounter a “security-related matter” on Monday.

“Flight 9W 825 Cochin-Mumbai was rescheduled to depart Cochin at 1402 hours, with a delay of two hours on account of a security-related matter," the spokesperson said.

“The airline has informed the relevant authority of the same for further necessary action and has offered full cooperation as required.”

“At Jet Airways, safety and security of its guests, crew and assets is of paramount importance."

According to India Today, the suspect has already been detained. The passenger told the airline crew that he was going hijack the plane with a “happy bomb,” according to a report by Times Now.
