Mumbai: Mumbai police have finally found the severed head of Priyanka Gurav, 23, who was allegedly murdered by her husband and in-laws, five days after her marriage.

Though police found the woman’s torso a week ago in a drain in Navi Mumbai, her severed head was recovered on Sunday in a forest on the Shahpur-Nashik Road in the eastern suburb of Thane, covered in a plastic bag and bedsheet.

Earlier, Priyanka’s siblings identified her from a tattoo of the Hindu deity Ganesh and Om symbol on her shoulder.

Priyanka was living with her in-laws in Worli, in central Mumbai, and went missing on May 5. On May 6, police found a body part in a nullah (ravine) at Mahape.

On May 7, her husband filed a missing person complaint.

Police had earlier arrested Priyanka’s husband, Siddhesh, 25, his parents — Manohar 50, and Madhuri, 48 — and a friend Durgesh Patwa, 31, in connection with the murder.

Two men who allegedly tried to dispose off the body parts were also arrested. She was apparently strangled before being mutilated.

According to initial interrogation, Priyanka, before her marriage, had put pressure on Siddhesh for three years to marry her. After they got married, there were frequent quarrels, with her in-laws even suspecting her character. They finally came up with a plan, a gruesome one, to get rid of her.

However, her sister Kavita, has stated that even before their marriage Siddhesh was not only violent towards her, but even his mother was. When she asked Priyanka as to why she wanted to marry into such a family, she said she had no other option.
