Patna: Armed criminals chopped off the tongue of a man, irked at police raids at their home for power theft leading to realisation of heavy penalty. The attackers suspected the victim was instrumental in passing on the information to the police.

The gruesome incident took place at Maner block in Patna district on Wednesday but was reported to the police only Friday. The victim has been identified as Pawan Kumar, an electrician employed in a government power station.

Police said the victim had gone outside when three youths kidnapped the man and later chopped off his tongue tip with a sharp-edged blade at an isolated place. The victim has been admitted to a hospital for treatment.

“I was on duty when they kidnapped and chopped my tongue. I know all of them,” the victim told the police. The police are conducting raids to arrest the absconding accused persons.

As per reports, a raiding squad of the electricity department had recently conducted raids at the house of one of the accused persons for power continued power theft. Subsequently, he had to pay up a heavy fine to the electricity department. The accused suspected the said electrician was passed this information to the department concerned.
