Patna: A man from Bihar killed his daughter, a minor, after coming to know that his estranged wife had married another person.
The incident took place in Katihar district, some 350km east of Patna, on Monday, but was reported in media today.
Police said Mohammad Mustaq was having frequent quarrels with his wife, Dukhni Khatoon, after which she deserted him and left for Delhi some five months ago to stay with her sister. Mustaq lived with his in-laws since their wedding.
“[The] man lost his cool after being told his wife had married another person in Delhi and in a fit of rage strangulated his daughter to death,” a local police official, Anupam Kumar, told media today. He said the police have arrested the accused and sent him to jail.
The victim, identified as Suhani, had been staying with her father as her mother left her in-laws’ home with a son and another daughter.
Last month, a man from neighbouring Purnia district had ruthlessly killed his two-year-old son, apparently irritated at his cries disturbing his sleep. After killing his son, the accused once again went to sleep. The victim’s body was later recovered from a nearby rivulet.
