Hyderabad: Telugu film actor and comedian Vijay Sai has committed suicide at his residence in Hyderabad, police said. His body was found hanging from ceiling fan at his flat in the Yousufguda area of the city this morning.
Hyderabad police said that they found a selfie video on his phone in which he blamed his estranged wife, Vanitha, and a few others. “I am ending my life for my honour and due to the mental torture,” he said in the video addressed to his father.
The police are looking into the case from all angles, officials said. The body was taken to Osmania General Hospital’s mortuary for post mortem.
Sai in his video said that he took the decision to commit suicide due to the behaviour of his wife and threats by others. He named Vara Lakshmi, Vinni, industrialist Shashidhar and lawyer Srinivas as those responsible for his death. “Please see to it that none of them are spared,” he said. He is survived by a daughter.
The actor, who started his film career with Ammailu Abbailu (Girls and Boys) in 2003, last appeared in a movie in 2015 and was known to be going through financial and personal difficulties.
Vanitha, who had been living separately from him for some time, told media that she is not aware of the causes of his suicide. “He had an affair with another woman and after seeing this with my own eyes I had complained to his parents but they did not take any action. Our divorce proceedings are in the court for the last two years,” she said.
On the allegation of the actor’s parents that she had demanded a lot of money as part of a divorce settlement, causing mental agony to him, Vanitha said, “I only asked for the return of what was given as dowry to him so that I could take care of my daughter.”
