Thiruvananthapuram: While popular Malayalam matinee idol Dileep cools his heels in prison in the case related to abduction and sexual assault of an actress earlier this year, more VIPs are facing questioning by the investigating team.

Among those likely to be questioned are former director general of police and state police chief, T.P. Senkumar, and singer and television personality Rimi Tomy.

Tomy confirmed on Thursday that police had sought some clarifications from her over telephone, but denied reports circulating in online media about police having formally questioned her. She also clarified that she had no financial dealings with Dileep, or his actress-wife Kavya Madhavan.

Tomy said police had only wanted to know some details about one of her trips to the US, and added that she had no enmity with the actress who was assaulted.

The actress assault case has also turned troublesome for former police chief Senkumar, who is likely to be questioned by police for his adverse comments against the abused actress. Additional director general of police, B. Sandhya is likely to take the statement of the former police chief.

The allegation against Senkumar is that he made discrediting comments against the actress who was abused. The comments came during a media interview that Senkumar gave after his retirement.

A woman’s organisation based in the state capital had given a formal complaint to the state police chief, Loknath Behera, which has now been directed to Sandhya for further action.

On social media, however, many people commented that the probe against Senkumar was a vengeful act by the Left Democratic Front government.

Shortly after the LDF came to power in May last year, it had removed Senkumar from the post of police chief. He, however, fought the decision in the court, and got reinstated in his post a few weeks before his retirement.

Meanwhile, in another shocking case of abuse related to the Malayalam movie world, a man has been taken into custody in Kochi for allegedly sexually abusing an aspirant actress and duping her of Rs3.3 million (Dh189,007).

Police on Thursday arrested Vinson Lonappan, a photographer from Kodungalloor, for allegedly cheating the aspirant actress and taking money from her after convincing her that some black magic rituals had to be performed to ensure an acting career for her.

The victim is reportedly an American-Indian dentist, who is currently getting her first break in a Tamil movie. On social media, there were not many sympathisers for her. Many commented that it was unbelievable that such a highly educated person would part with so much money and be duped in such a manner in her obsession to be a movie star.
