Patna: Jailed terrorists on Friday attacked security forces in Bihar and also allegedly chanted anti-India slogans, apparently irked at the frequent checking of their food. The situation was brought under control only when additional forces were deployed to the scene of the unrest, reports said.
The incident took place at the high-security Beur Central jail in Patna, the capital of Bihar state, raising questions about jail security. The attacked security personnel were earlier employed in the Indian Army. More than 10 terrorists alleged to be involved in Bodh Gaya and Patna’s Gandhi Maidan serial blasts are currently lodged in the prison.
The incident took place early Friday morning while the security personnel were checking food being served to them. This is a routine practice, but on Friday the prisoners suddenly began to protest. When asked to maintain silence, they turned violent and attacked security, leaving two of them wounded, reports said.
As per reports, the terrorists also shouted anti-India slogans while creating a ruckus in the jail, prompting authorities to rush additional forces to the scene.
Reports quoting local media said the terrorists have been angry since India carried out a surgical strike across the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan-administered Kashmir last month. They have been creating a ruckus under one pretext or another since the incident while shouting slogans against the Indian Army.
These terrorists are lodged in a separate cell of the central prison.
Security at the prison has been beefed up since the Friday attack.
