Hyderabad: A Herculean task lies ahead for Hyderabad police, with the city gearing up to host two very important political personalities along with hundreds of foreign delegates later this month.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in the city to inaugurate the Hyderabad Metro Rail as well as attend the Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2017, where all eyes will also be on Ivanka Trump, the daughter and adviser of the US President Donald Trump.

Hyderabad city and surroundings will be turned into a fortress for the VVIP visit, as 3,000 police personnel will be deployed to ensure foolproof security during the three day summit.

While the three-layered security of Narendra Modi will be handled by the SPG, Intelligence Bureau andlocal police, Ivanka’s security will be handled by the US Secret Service agents.

As the VVIPs will travel to different venues of the programmes during the GES, ensuring their safety as well as traffic management — to clear the way for their convoys — will also be a major challenge for the police.

According to the preliminary schedule, Prime Minister Modi will land at the Begumpet airport on the morning of November 28 and take a helicopter ride to Miyapur for inaugurating the Hyderabad Metro Rail project.

He will also undertake a short ride on the Metro before heading for the Hyderabad International Convention Centre to attend the GES.

If he travels to HICC by road, then the route he has to take will be closed for the normal traffic.

Later in the evening he will again undertaking a road journey from HICC to Falaknuma Palace the traffic on the road will be stopped on that route.

According to Hyderabad city police, the roads around the Falanuma Palace in the old city will be closed for the traffic two hours before the dinner which Modi will host for Ivanka Trump.

As part of the security arrangements 500 CCTV cameras were being installed around the Falaknuma Palace.

A nearby flyover at Chandrayagutta will also be closed for the traffic when Ivanka and Modi come to the Palace for dinner.

While the Prime Minister was likely to return to the national capital the same evening, Ivanka Trump was likely to remain in the city for another day and attend another dinner the state government was hosting for her and other delegates of GES.

The US Secret Service, responsible for the security of the president and his family will be bringing a plane load of special vehicles and equipment for Ivanka’s security. During her stay in Hyderabad, she will travel in a convoy of special bulletproof SUVs the US officials will bring with them, along with weapons and communication systems.

The US Security service personnel providing security cover to Ivanka and other officials will be armed with weapons including FN P90 submachine guns, 9 MM Heckler and Koch MP 5 submachine guns, and 12 gauge Remington 870 shotguns and other weapons.

The first team of the US security personnel will arrive in the city on Monday and inspect the venues to be visited by Ivanka, including the Westin Hotel, where she will be staying. An advance team equipped with special equipment will sanitise the venues just ahead of her arrival there.

The dispute between the Indian security agency officials and the US security agents over who can keep arms in the proximity of Ivanka when Prime Minister Modi meets her has still not be resolved.

US officials were objecting to any one else apart from them keeping the arms while providing proximity cover to Ivanka.

“The issue will figure when the two sides meet next week,” an official said.
