Hyderabad: A massive drug scandal has sent ripples across Hyderabad as a large number of students from affluent families studying in reputed schools and colleges were found to be involved, some as customers and others as conduits of the gang.

Akun Sabharwal, Director Excise and Prohibition department, said today that notices were issued to 27 colleges, 26 schools and some private companies. Notices have also been issued to some film personalities in Telugu industry who were also buying drugs from the gang.

“But we will not arrest or question the students as it may affect their future. But we have informed the parents of the children and also asked the managements of their schools and colleges to counsel them”, he said.

With the arrest of another person, Benden Ben, the total number of people arrested in the case has gone up to eight. Ben, who runs a hotel management college was allegedly running this drugs ring with another person, Nikhil Shetty, he added.

In view of the seriousness of the situation, the department has decided to convene a meeting of 83 school management teams to create awareness against the menace.

The investigation was launched after the gang busted revealed that it was sourcing narcotics such as LSD and MDMA or ecstasy from Chicago.

Apart from the students, who were as young as thirteen, employees of several multinational corporation were also customers of the gang.

The police have seized drugs worth Rs3 million (Dh169,934) from the peddler. A search was on for a more gang members.
