Hyderabad: RoboCop, a smart policing Robot, fully made in India by a Hyderabad based start-up, was today unveiled by Jayesh Ranjan, the Principal Secretary of Telangana state Information Technology department.

The robot, whose beta version was launched by H-Bots Robotics today, has the ability to walk, recognise people and surroundings, take complaints, detect mobs, identify suspects and interact with the people, said Kisshhan PSV, the founder of H-Bots and the person who conceptualised the robot.

“This is the world’s first smart policing robot”, he said. “This smart RoboCop with its autonomous physical presence interacts with its surrounding environment gathering data in real time, and detects irregularities without user interface, without resting, at a fraction of the cost normally paid for technology, cameras, censors and guard services,” he said.

H-Bots Robotics is an Artificial Intelligence start-up working out of the T-Hub in Hyderabad. The promoters of the company say it is a 100 per cent indigenous product that can change the world of security.

In July this year H-Bots launched its lab facility Makers Leeway in the field of robotics and hardware for start-ups and innovators.

The beta version of the five-foot-seven-inch robot weighing 43kg was developed by a 16-member team of the company at a cost of Rs4 million (Dh230,095). However, once commercial production begins by July 2018, it will be available at a cost of Rs500,000, the company statement said.

“The company plans to make 70 robots in the first year, 700 by 2020,”, PSV Kisshhan said.

The robot is equipped with cameras and an array of sensors like ultrasonic, proximity and temperature. It has the ability to do 360-degree eye-level surveillance, face and gesture recognition, and can detect metals, monitor temperature and control theft, the company said.

The company has already received orders for 20 robots from different companies. “It is a security robot specifically equipped to protect and secure public and private areas such as signal posts, malls, airports, offices and buildings with public places,” the statement said. Kisshhan said the robot can be deployed for security and law enforcement and can be used in all police operations as an informant, such as traffic operations and also in support of the SHE teams of the police in anti-teasing operations.
