A Dalit groom was taken out of the car and badly beaten up for playing loud music during his wedding procession in Bihar, sparking tension in the area.

The incident took place at Khadauli village in Rohtas district, some 150km west of Patna, on Wednesday.

As per the complaint registered with the police, the groom was leading a wedding procession with a DJ in a van following him when influential local residents objected to the loud music being played by the marriage party.

As the people in the procession refused to oblige them, the angry villagers pulled the groom out of the car and thrashed him and some of his group mercilessly leaving at least six seriously wounded.

The injured were initially admitted to a local primary health centre but considering the seriousness of the wounds, were later referred to another upgraded government hospital in Sasaram, headquarters of Rohtas district.

The police have registered a case for rioting and spreading communal hatred against both groups, and are conducting raids to nab the absconding accused.

Last week, Dalit villagers from Muzaffarpur district in Bihar were badly beaten up after they tried to enter a Hindu temple and offer prayers there for a wedding in the family. At least four persons, including some women, were wounded in the incident, prompting the victims to register a case with the local police.

An even more shocking incident was reported from the northern Indian state of Haryana where a Dalit groom was beaten up the upper caste men for riding a horse during a marriage ceremony last month. They pulled off the groom from the horse saying that Dalits were not allowed to ride horses.
